Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representative’s rejection of President Obama’s Iran nuclear agreement:

“It is beyond all reason that the President and his Administration would move forward with this deal against the objections of the American people. Any deal with Iran concerning its nuclear capabilities must be enforceable, and ensure the accountability of the regime through open, verifiable inspections. This framework fails to meet these standards.

As it stands, Iran will be allowed to use their own inspectors to investigate its nuclear operations at the Parchin military complex. Instead of “anytime, anywhere” inspections, we are placing our trust in a regime that revels in acts of defiance, and flaunts disdain for the West and its interests. How are we to believe – as regime leaders continue to lead chants of “death to America” and make declarations that Israel “will not see the coming 25 years” – that this deal does anything more than advance the interests of Iran at the expense of American and global security?

With Tehran receiving $150 billion in sanctions relief, the only certainty in this deal is the revitalization of a regime dedicated to opposing the liberties and values shared by freedom loving people across the globe. These new found funds will inevitably go towards the regime’s efforts to build ICBM missiles, the continued funding of terrorism, and an expansion of activities that threaten the United States and our Middle East partners.

The ramifications of allowing a nuclear Iran not only pose a clear and present danger to the United States and Israel, but create a global threat that alters the landscape of the Middle East and beyond.

The stakes are too high, the dangers too great for the President to ask the American people to accept this deal. Today, in the interest of protecting the security of America and our allies, I join my colleagues in opposition to this deeply flawed deal.“
