Latta Discusses Opioid Epidemic with Local Pharmacists

Bowling Green, OH, April 5, 2018 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) discussed the opioid epidemic with pharmacists from Lucas and Wood County at a roundtable this morning at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township. Latta discussed his legislation, the INFO Act and other legislation considered by the Energy and Commerce Committee to combat the crisis. The pharmacists at the roundtable discussed the importance of education, providing safe disposal of drugs, and efforts to develop alternative treatment for pain.

“Pharmacists are on the front lines of this crisis and their perspective is critical as we seek to reverse the alarming trend of opioid abuse, addiction, and overdoses,” said Latta. “As the Energy and Commerce Committee works on more than 20 pieces of legislation to address this epidemic, discussions like the one today are invaluable to crafting policies that will make a real difference. I appreciate hearing from the pharmacists today about ideas they have for preventing addiction.”
