Latta Speaks to Defiance Rotary About the Economy and Legislation to Combat the Opioid Epidemic

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) addressed the Defiance Rotary yesterday and discussed legislation he authored to combat the opioid epidemic that was recently signed into law. The Indexing, Narcotics, Fentanyl, and Opioids (INFO) Act was included in H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act – the most significant legislative effort to address a single drug crisis in U.S. history. Latta introduced the legislation after hearing from constituents at a forum on the opioid crisis held at Defiance College last year.

At the rotary speech, Latta also discussed the booming economy which has led to the highest number of jobs in Ohio history and has seen annual GDP growth on pace for its highest rate in 13 years. In addition, unemployment is at a 49-year low and a 65-year low for women.

“I appreciated the opportunity to address the Defiance Rotary and discuss my recent legislation that was signed into law,” said Latta. “It’s not only important to represent the views of the constituents in Ohio’s 5th District, it’s also important that I get things done on their behalf. The INFO Act will make a difference in communities across the region that are working combat the opioid epidemic.

“At the same time, I wanted to make sure to discuss the soaring economy and what it means right here in Ohio – more jobs, higher wages, a growing manufacturing sector, and small businesses that are expanding. I’d like to thank the Defiance Rotary for the invitation to provide a legislative update on the issues I’ve been working on.”
