Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined U.S. Sens. George V. Voinovich (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and U.S. Reps. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) to send a letter to President Obama yesterday evening in support of Governor Ted Strickland’s request for a federal major disaster declaration for several Northwest Ohio communities.
This is the second letter that Congressman Latta has sent to President Obama asking him to declare Wood and Fulton Counties as federal disaster areas. Congressman Latta’s June 8th letter and press release can be found here. “We are writing in support of Governor Ted Strickland’s request for a federal major disaster declaration for Fulton, Ottawa, and Wood counties as a result of severe storms and tornadoes that impacted Ohio the evening of June 5 and the early morning of June 6, 2010,” the bipartisan group wrote. “We fully support Governor Strickland’s request for a federal major disaster declaration and urge your prompt consideration of his request.” A full copy of the letter follows. June 9, 2010 The President of the United States The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear President Obama: We are writing in support of Governor Ted Strickland’s request for a federal major disaster declaration for Fulton, Ottawa, and Wood counties as a result of severe storms and tornadoes that impacted Ohio the evening of June 5 and the early morning of June 6, 2010. Specifically, Governor Strickland is requesting Public Assistance and Individual Assistance be made available for each county. The National Weather Service confirmed an ESF-4 tornado in Wood County that continued through Ottawa County. Additional tornadoes touched down in Lucas and Fulton counties. Tragically, the tornado was responsible for the loss of five lives. We believe the damage is severe enough that the outpouring of local, state and voluntary efforts still leaves significant needs unmet and federal assistance is necessary. We fully support Governor Strickland’s request for a federal major disaster declaration and urge your prompt consideration of his request in accordance with all relevant rules, laws and regulations.
