Latta Cosponsors Congressional Resolutions Opposing Carbon Tax

Washington, DC, December 13, 2012 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) cosponsored two separate concurrent resolutions opposing a federal carbon tax. Congressman Latta issued the following statement regarding his support for these resolutions.

“During a time when many families and local manufacturers are already facing financial hardships, we cannot impose a tax increase that will result in higher energy prices. Many people in northwest Ohio drive many miles to and from work every day and will be directly affected by a carbon tax that will drive up the cost of energy. Increased energy costs will also impede our advancement towards domestic energy independence, which has proved to be a major source of job growth throughout Ohio.”

H.Con.Res. 142, which is sponsored by Congressman David McKinley (R-WV) and has gathered bipartisan support, specifically opposes a carbon tax on fuels for electricity and transportation. H.Con.Res. 144, sponsored by Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS), expresses the sense of Congress that a carbon tax is not in the economic interest of the country.
