Latta: Obama Proposal Will Limit Access to Dependable Sources of Domestic Energy

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s latest proposal to implement regulations on new and existing power plants:

“It is estimated that roughly 80 percent of Ohio’s electricity is generated from coal-fired power plants, and the coal mining industry accounts for over 3,000 jobs in Ohio, and over 760,000 American jobs throughout the country. Unfortunately, the policies proposed today by President Obama will result in limited access to inexpensive and dependable sources of domestic energy, higher taxes, and a direct loss in U.S. jobs.

“Since 2009, the EPA has issued over 3,000 pages of greenhouse gas related regulations – more government regulations and new taxes on energy will not solve our nation’s energy crisis but instead will harm our already fragile economy. I have and will continue to support an “all of the above” energy plan that produces energy made by American workers, bolsters job creation, and increases American competitiveness while reducing our country’s dependence on foreign oil.”
