Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Energy and Power Subcommittee, today released the following statement after an Ohio Oil and Gas Association report confirmed Ohio as a leader in natural gas and oil production with the development of Utica shale. According to the report, which was released at the organization's annual meeting, oil production nearly doubled and natural gas production grew by nearly two and a half times in Ohio from 2012 to 2013.

"The Ohio Oil and Gas Association's report not only reinforces the positive impacts of Utica shale development over the past year, but also the potential for future economic growth and job creation," said Latta. "Ohio's Fifth Congressional District has more than 60,000 manufacturing jobs, many of which make component parts used in the oil and natural gas extraction process. In addition, Northwest Ohio is the home to one of the nation's leading petroleum refiners. The future of these jobs and the resulting economic benefits will largely be determined by the environmental, regulatory and tax structure put in place by all levels of government. Ohio is at the forefront of an energy boom, and as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue to fight for pro-growth energy policies that result in jobs and community investment for both this country and Ohio."
