Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) signed a letter to President Obama urging the immediate halt of admissions of refugees from Syria and Iraq into the United States. The bipartisan letter was signed by over a hundred Members of the House of Representatives, and called for admissions of refugees to be suspended until effective vetting and monitoring processes are established, and the Administration can certify that asylum seekers from these countries do not pose a safety threat. Reports have indicated one of the attackers responsible for the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris entered Europe as a refugee. “Without an effective means of gathering information on these refugees, or the ability to monitor those entering the country, we risk putting American's in harm’s way. The tragic attacks in Paris are further evidence that freedom-loving nations must be ever vigilant in the war against ISIS. This terrorist organization poses a clear and present danger to the United States, and to our allies across the world. We must take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of the American people. Until these vital security issues have been addressed, I ask the President to suspend the admission of these refugees.” MORE: Letter to President Obama (LINK) Latta on Attacks Against Paris (LINK) Latta Speech on Paris Attacks (LINK) |
