WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) laid out his energy priorities this morning at the initial Energy Conference Committee meeting between members of the House and Senate. The committee is tasked with hammering out differences between the differing bills passed this Congress by the House of Representatives and the Senate. Latta was named by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan as a member of the conference committee earlier this summer.
“Our energy policy in the United States is decades old and does not reflect the abundant energy supply that we are so fortunate to have,” said Latta. “Updating this policy is vital to continuing to grow the economy of Ohio and the rest of the United States, while also furthering the goal of American energy security.”
Video of Latta’s opening statement is available here and begins at 1:10.
Latta, a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, highlighted a number of provisions that he has worked on that were included in the House legislation. Those provisions are:
Codifying the existing EPA oversight process for warranties and the Energy Star program. A gap in Federal law allowed private litigation against manufacturers when a product falls out of compliance with the program. The existing EPA enforcement has proven successful. More information on that provision is available here.
Authorizing the WaterSense program in statute, ensuring Congress has oversight of the program. The program allows for a label that enables consumer to have more information about products which save water for their home, yards, and business.
Creating an official advisory board to serve as counsel to the U.S. Departments of the Interior and Agriculture on policies benefiting hunting and wildlife resources.
A provision rectifying the disparity for commercial filming activities between smaller film crews and larger, well-funded crews while filming on public lands. More information on the previous two provisions is available here.
