This morning, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) attended a Veterans Day program at Miller City School in Putnam County. Thirty-six veterans and their families were on hand for the event as students paid tribute to those that have served in the U.S. military. More than 900,000 veterans reside in Ohio, with approximately 50,000 currently living in the Fifth Congressional District.
“We forever owe our respect and gratitude to the men and women that have served in our military,” said Latta. “On Veterans Day, we honor the twenty million veterans that have answered their country’s call. Without their sacrifice, Americans would not enjoy the freedoms that we do. It was an incredible privilege to meet the veterans at the Miller City School this morning and thank them for their service. We are incredibly grateful for what they and their families have done for this country.” In addition, Congressman Latta supported 14 pieces of legislation this week that passed to help the nation’s veterans. All of the bills passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislation includes: · H.R. 2123 – The Veterans E-Health and Telemedicine Support Act of 2017 (VETS) Act, which expands veterans’ ability to access quality healthcare, specifically for rural veterans who do not live within proximity to a veterans facility. The issue is important in Congressman Latta’s district, as a large number of the 50,000 veterans don’t live close to a VA facility. · H.R. 3949 – The Veteran Apprenticeship and Labor Opportunity Reform (VALOR) Act, which simplifies an approval process for GI Bill-approved apprenticeship program, making it easier for veterans to gain future employment opportunities. · H.R. 1900 – The National Veterans Memorial and Museum Act, which designates the Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio, as the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. ### |
