Latta Votes to Freeze Biden Administration’s $6 Billion Payout to Iran

U.S. House passes No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act

Washington, November 30, 2023 | Claire Hurley (202-225-6405)

Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) released the following statement after voting in favor of the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act, which will permanently freeze funds released to Iran involved in the 2023 hostage deal between the United States and Iran:

“It’s no secret Iran funds multiple terrorist organizations around the world, including Hamas who launched a brutal attack on Israel last month and continues to terrorize its people. Additionally, American troops stationed in the Middle East have been the target of attacks by Iran-linked groups, injuring dozens of service members in recent weeks.

Here’s the bottom line: the Biden administration’s effort to appease Iran are wrong. Freezing the $6 billion dollars is a necessary step to send the Iranian regime a clear message that the United States does not condone and will not help fund terrorist activities. Period.”

Latta previously cosponsored a Congressional resolution to disapprove of the Biden administration’s effort to send $6 billion to Iran. Last month, with Latta’s support, the House approved a Congressional resolution to condemn the Hamas terrorist attack on the nation and people of Israel.
