This week, President Joe Biden signed into law the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act, legislation co-led by Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) and Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA5). "Our national security has long been jeopardized by relying heavily on Russia for our nuclear fuel supply," Latta said. "With the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act now law, we’re one step closer to cementing the United States’ global nuclear energy leadership. I’d like to thank Chair Rodgers for her steadfast work on this issue, and I look forward to continuing to advance commonsense, pro-energy policies that help secure North American energy independence.” In February of 2023, Latta and Rodgers introduced H.R. 1042, and the House approved the bill in December of 2023. The Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act builds upon Latta’s Nuclear Fuel Security Act – signed into law in 2023 – and will help unlock the private capital needed to expand the United States’ nuclear fuel supply. |
