LATTA STATEMENT FOLLOWING CONSTITUENT WORK WEEK

Bowling Green, February 4, 2011 | Tim Schneider ((419) 354-8700)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) met and heard from area job creators this week as part of his February constituent work week, a component to the new governing agenda of the House Republican’s "Pledge to America."  Following meeting with businesses in his district today, Congressman Latta issued the following statement:

“It is absolutely clear that after hearing the concerns of the employers in Ohio's Fifth Congressional District that President Obama is continuing to fail to make job creation, reducing the deficit, and cutting spending the focus of addressing our economic challenges.  The President stated in his State of the Union address that more government stimulus programs are the answer; however, it is clear that the Democrats past stimulus bills have not reduced unemployment nor put Americans back to work as the President promised.

In spite of the Administration’s failed efforts, House Republicans have demonstrated their commitment to creating jobs and improving America’s economic wellbeing by following through with the “Pledge to America”.  Despite being in the majority for less than one month, House Republicans kept their promise to the American people by repealing the jobs-killing, government take-over of America’s healthcare system.  In addition, we have proven our commitment to reducing spending by cutting Congress’ own budget by 5 percent, and by banning all earmarks.  Further, last week I introduced H.R. 431, legislation aimed at repealing automatic pay increases for Members of Congress.  I, as well as my fellow House Republicans, remain determined to save and create jobs, reduce spending, and decrease financial burdens on area businesses.”

This constituent work week is an effort to increase Congress’ responsiveness to the concerns of citizens as part of the greater “Pledge to America.”  In addition to his regular outreach services, Congressman Latta will continue to designate such weeks to spend with constituents each month throughout the 112th Congress.
