No More Budget Stopgaps

Senate must pass a long-term continuing resolution or else

WASHINGTON, D.C, April 1, 2011 | Izzy Santa ((202)-226-4356)
Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today issued the following statement in regards to the Senate’s inability to pass a long-term continuing resolution:

“We can’t continue to pass stopgap bills to avert a government shutdown. Over a month ago the House passed a continuing resolution that cuts $61 billion from current spending levels, H.R. 1. Meanwhile the Senate failed twice to pass their own Democratic measure and H.R. 1. The Senate must pass a long-term continuing resolution and stop playing hardball with Americans.

“We have much important work ahead of us and we can’t continue to stall our country’s progress due to the Senate’s lack of leadership.

“If the Senate can’t pass a measure by April 6th, I along with House Republicans must pass the Government Shutdown Prevention Act, a bill that makes the spending cuts permanent and also prevents Congress and the President from being paid during a federal shutdown.”
