Latta Statement of May Jobs Numbers

The Labor Department released its latest jobs numbers today, reporting that only 69,000 jobs were added in May.  In addition, the unemployment rate increased to 8.2%.  The number of jobs added falls far short of the 100,000 jobs that need to be added per month to keep up with population growth.  Upon the release, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement:

“Today’s jobs numbers are disheartening for Americans.  The jobless rate increased and there were not enough jobs created to keep up with population growth, let alone those new college graduates.  Since the President took office in 2009, the unemployment rate has stayed above 8%.  This sluggish growth is a reminder that President Obama’s reckless spending does not translate into jobs for Americans.

“I encourage the President to work with House Republicans to reduce regulatory burdens on job creators and simplify the tax code, which will allow for expansion and growth.  This will help employers create jobs that are so desperately needed.”
