WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Labor Department released its latest jobs number today, reporting the unemployment rate at 7.9 percent. Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement on the October jobs report: “The Obama Administration told us that if we passed a massive federal ‘stimulus’ our unemployment rate would now be below six percent, but instead the unemployment rate remains about 3 percent higher than the pre-recession unemployment levels and our national debt is over $16 trillion. With more than 20 million Americans currently struggling to find full-time work, this is not a real recovery. “I have worked with my colleagues in the House to pass legislation, all of which is still pending in the Senate, that prevents the impending tax hikes, lowers energy prices, and reduces burdensome and duplicative regulations on our small businesses. While the House has acted by passing over 30 pieces of jobs legislation, there is still much work to be done to provide the needed certainty in the marketplace to encourage businesses and job creators to invest and expand so we can get our economy back on track.”
