Monday evening, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in passing H.Res. 847, a resolution expressing a sense of the House about a national strategy for the Internet of Things (IoT) to promote economic growth and consumer empowerment. Latta is an original cosponsor of the resolution and is Co-Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Internet of Things Working Group.
“The Internet of Things has the potential to dramatically improve our economy and people's way of life,” said Latta. “With such revolutionary technology, there needs to be discussions about what a forward-thinking approach toward IoT looks like. The resolution passed today shows that Congress recognizes the power that IoT holds and acknowledges the need to review policy obstacles that could stifle innovation. I’ll continue to participate in these discussions through the IoT working group as we work to develop a strategy that fully embraces the transformative possibilities of this cutting-edge technology.” The Internet of Things is technology in which physical objects and machines are embedded with Internet connectivity in order to allow them to process data and communicate in real-time with their surrounding environment. According to one study, the IoT will create $14.4 trillion in global net profit between 2013 and 2022. ### |
