Latta Votes for First Step of Tax Reform

Washington, October 26, 2017 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)
Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined his colleagues in passing H.Con.Res 71, the FY2018 budget, an important first step in achieving comprehensive tax reform this Congress. The passage of a budget allows the use of reconciliation in the U.S. Senate. This means only needing 51 votes to pass a bill, rather than the 60 votes normally required to break a filibuster.

“Our tax code is broken, and it’s hurting Ohio families, small businesses, manufacturers, and farmers,” said Latta. “Instead of the complicated, confusing tax system we have now, we’re working on a tax plan that would make the code simpler, fairer, and less confusing. However, in order to have a chance at passing the first overhaul of our tax code in 31 years, it was essential that we first pass a budget. While there is much work to be done, today’s vote paves the way for comprehensive tax reform that will let Americans keep more of their hard-earned money in their wallets and will create more jobs.”
