Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following statement after Ohio broke its previous record for number of jobs. After continued growth, the number of jobs in the state stands at 5,638,900, which surpasses the record set back in 2000.

“We’ve seen the national economic numbers showing unemployment at a 49-year low, small business optimism at a record high, and wages on an upward trajectory,” said Latta. “But, now we’re seeing what this means right here at home in Ohio. After a jobs peak in 2000, the Buckeye State suffered from the loss of jobs for years and was particularly devastated by the recession. However, pro-growth policies implemented by a Republican Congress and the President have meant a resurgence in Ohio. Ohio is ranked 6th in the country and 1st in the Midwest in terms of job growth this year. For Northwest and West Central Ohio, manufacturing gains are helping our local economy, getting people back to work, and increasing wages due to greater demand for workers. We don’t want to go backwards on this progress, and it’s important we continue to put in place policies that allow Ohio businesses to grow and expand.”
