WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) is highlighting a recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report which showed that job openings jumped 2.4% in December to 7.3 million. That’s the largest number of job openings in the United States since the report was created in 2000. The number of openings also exceeds the number of people looking for work by one million. “7.3 million job openings is another record-setting statistic that shows the strength of our economy,” said Latta. “The focus on the economy in President Trump’s first term is paying off. The passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act just over a year ago and the removal of government red tape is helping more Americans find good-paying jobs. At the same time, this also highlights the need to ensure that the labor force has the skills needed to fill these open positions. Last year, Congress passed landmark Career and Technical Education legislation that will help prepare workers for the jobs of tomorrow. “One aspect I find concerning is the fact that Democrats in Congress seem determined to undo all of the good work that has our economy rolling. For instance, last week they released a ‘Green New Deal’ proposal that would cost trillions of dollars, burden middle-class families with skyrocketing energy costs, and includes a number of policies that would stifle business growth. Not only do they want to go back to failed tax and spend economic policies – they want to take them farther than they ever have before! “We need to look at what’s working and putting more money in the pockets of hardworking Ohio families. Let’s stay the course and continue to pass pro-growth policies that are benefitting countless Americans.” ### |
