Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) joined his colleagues in the House of Representatives in voting to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Once the USMCA is signed into law, the United States can expect $68 billion in new economic activity. Canada is Ohio’s leading trade partner where 39% of the state’s exports totaled to more than $21 billion in revenue in 2018. “We are finally one step closer to creating over 176,000 American jobs because of the passage of the USMCA,” said Latta. “NAFTA had to be modernized for the 21st century with stronger enforcement provisions including those dedicated to digital trade, expanding free trade, and allowing for a stronger American economy. “Importantly, the USMCA prioritizes the American worker and allows our manufacturers to remain globally competitive,” concluded Latta. “Ohio businesses need to be able to continue to sell their products cross-border and I am encouraged that this modernized agreement will facilitate higher levels of regulatory coherence and cooperation.” ### |
