Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics September Jobs Report revealed unemployment has fallen to 3.7%, the lowest number since 1969. “Despite the impact of Hurricane Florence, a new jobs report contains more good news for American businesses, workers, and the economy. The unemployment rate is at its lowest level in nearly half a century and wages continue to grow. Since 1970, there have only been 10 months where the unemployment rate has been below 4 percent – half of them have occurred this year under a Republican Congress and President Trump. The unemployment rate for women matches its lowest rate in 65 years at 3.6%. “For Ohio’s 5th Congressional District, the growth in manufacturing jobs is a major highlight. Since President Trump’s election, manufacturing job gains now average 19,000 a month, more than double the 8,000 per month under the last four years of the Obama Administration. We saw what this means for Ohio workers just last week when a representative from Perrysburg’s Jerl Machine testified in front of the subcommittee I chair about the multiple bonuses they’ve paid, the wages they’ve increased, and the additional business they’ve taken on after the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. “Cutting taxes and red tape is helping put people back to work and putting more money in the pockets of Ohio families. We can’t afford to go back to the policies that led to stagnant growth, higher taxes, and fewer jobs.” |
